Stalybridge 4 Leigh RMI 4 WITH just an hour gone, Leigh were trailing 4-0 at Stalybridge on Saturday and looking down both barrels - but an incredible fightback saw them draw level to share the spoils.
Indeed, but for referee Foulkes inexplicably disallowing a Lee Cryer "goal", RMI would have pocketed all three points. Celtic took the lead in the 22nd minute when Marginson beat Dave Felgate to a cross and scored with a close range header.
It was two on the half hour when RMI lost possession in a vital area and Burke pounced on a knockdown to fire past Felgate and just three minutes after the break Marginson grabbed his second direct from a corner. On the hour Stuart Locke fired a free kick straight at Sullivan who raced into the Leigh box before going down under a challenge from Tony Whealing and Powell made it four from the penalty spot.
The Leigh fightback began two minutes later when a cross struck goalkeeper Statham's shoulder before Neil Matthews got the finishing touch in a goalmouth scramble.
Martin Filson was sent off in the 70th minute for using an elbow on substitute Liam Carr and Locke scored his second penalty in four days.
And three minutes later the outstanding Simon Turpin headed a Peter Smyth corner into the roof of the net. After Cryer's effort was ruled out, Graham Hill equalised in the 90th minute, getting the final touch from another Smyth corner.
"Even though we were poor and they were reduced to 10 men, we showed tremendous character and I have no doubt we could have gone on and won it had there been another five minutes," said RMI boss Steve Waywell.
"We went behind because of individual errors but we proved once again we are difficult to beat. We are unbeaten in nine games, but unfortunately we have only won two of those."
