YET again Little Lever angler Kenny Entwistle has shown his mastery of winter canal fishing by winning the latest round of the Silstar Open Series. His latest victory at Withnall Fold comes on the back of a win and a second in the previous two matches. Fishing long pole with bloodworm and joker, Ken caught roach and perch consistently and finished with 2lb 11oz 4dr.
The rest of the framers all came from Silstar Izaac Walton and second was Liam Green who had a good roach bag of 2lb 7oz 7dr caught on the pole with bloodworm. Alan McAtee had skimmers and roach in his third place weight of 2lb 1oz 11dr. Silstar men also took the sections with Andrew Piercey (1lb 5oz 4dr) and Chris Cophlan (1lb 5oz 6dr).
The next open match is on Bolton Canal on Sunday, with the draw taking place at 8.30am at the Hall Lane car park. Fishing is from 10am to 3pm and there are no bait bans. To book on ring Martin Howcroft on 01204 402838. KEARSLEY Royal British Legion fished the final leg of a six-match winter league series on their own water last Sunday.
John Martin left it late when, after struggling without a bite for almost five hours, a match winning carp was tempted by his triple bronze maggot offering.
With only 12 minutes to the 'all-out' his bonus 'commoner' of 6lbs 7oz did the double for him by not only winning the match on the day, but also his first place ensured the aggregate championship. Simon Mort was second when a carp and a dozen gudgeon weighed 4lbs 5dr.
Keith Partington had a mixed bag of small roach, carp and skimmers for 1lb 9oz.
Peter Wood wanted better than his fourth place for glory in the aggregate, but a poor draw meant that a small fish bag could only return 11oz 5dr.
Final aggregate table: 1st John Martin 27 points; 2nd Peter Wood 28 points; 3rd Keith Partington 31 points; 4th Simon Mort 59 points.
