I READ with amazement of the "Radical new plan" of our Chairman of Bolton Licensing Committee, David Vause. (BEN, February 2)
Does Mr Vause really think confiscating an offender's car will stop him re-offending? He wonders - "What more can be done to get the message of drinking and driving across?"
Well, I'm just a housewife, Mr Vause, but I can tell you that where other people's lives are at risk from selfish, inconsiderable, individuals who drink and drive, the only thing TO DO is to revoke their driving licence FOR LIFE and not their car. There should be no second chance - once convicted of drinking and driving, they should lose their licence for good - after all, the innocent people killed or maimed by them certainly don't get a second chance.
What are our magistrates thinking about pussyfooting around with hair-brained ideas such as this? Let's not wonder any longer, Mr Vause. Let's get on with it. Take the drunken drivers off our roads - not their cars!
