A WELL-known pub landlord has died at the age of 80.

Austin Coyne, right, died in Christie Hospital after a five year illness.

He was a popular licensee known to thousands of people who visited his Bolton pubs over many years.

His wife Kathleen said: "Anyone without a dollar never went short of a pint where he was concerned."

Mr Coyne, a stalwart of the Irish community in Bolton, was brought up in Tipping Place, Bolton.

Decade

The couple's first pub was the former Union Arms in Folds Road before moving to the Blue Boar, Deansgate, where they spent just over a decade, before spending the last 23 years at the Bull's Head on Bradshaw Road.

They retired from the business 12 years ago but were able to keep their hand in as three of their four children joined the pub business.

Anthony runs the Hen & Chickens, Deansgate, daughter Marie is landlady at the Beaumont Arms, Armadale Road, Ladybridge, and Michael is a bar manager in Blackpool. Their eldest son Austin is an engineer.

Austin and his wife Kathleen had been married for 57 years.

Mr Coyne leaves his wife, four children, seven grandchildren and one great grandaughter, two-year-old Bethany.

The cortege leaves McManus Funeral Service on St George's Road at 9.40am tomorrow for Requiem Mass at St Ethelbert's RC Church followed by burial at Tonge Cemetery.
