By Doreen Crowther. Showbusiness Correspondent A TOP band and choir are combining to present the concert Brass and Voices at the Victoria Hall, Bolton, on Saturday, February 20. For the first time in more than a decade, Westhoughton-based Wingates Band joins with one of the country's oldest and finest choirs, The Warrington Male Voice Choir, for the concert promoted by the band. Last year the choir celebrated its centenary. It has travelled widely throughout the UK and, in recent years, has toured Germany, Holland, France, Canada and the USA.

The choir always has a full concert diary and, like Wingates Band, broadcasts regularly on radio.

Essentially concert performers, the choir enters choral competitions occasionally, but in 1994, after a 12-year absence from top level competition, the choir was the outright winner of the National Male Voice Choir Champions. This was followed by third places in 1997 and 1998.

The current strength of the choir is in excess of 100 voices and the age range is from 16 to 78.

The choir will be led by its Musical Director Russell Paterson and Wingates Band will be conducted by its Musical Director Chris Wormald.

Tickets for the concert which starts at 7.30 pm are available from Booth's Music, Churchgate, Bolton; the Albert Halls Ticket Office (01204 364333); David Kay on 01942 840044 (business) and 01204 595938 (home).
