IN the memory of the younger generation, the horses running in the Holcombe Hunt Point-to-Point steeplechases at Nab Gate, have galloped away from the crowd and for part of the race have been lost to sight behind the hill. At this year's meeting, on April 9th, it is probable that arrangements will be made so that they will be kept in view of the majority of spectators. The race committee is considering replanning the course so that the Wilshaw Loop - the part of the course which takes the horses out of sight behind Bentley Hall Farm - will be avoided. It is proposed that there should be a new starting point near Arthur-lane, in the vicinity of the water jump, which will mean that the horses will pass the crowd three times and finish with a 300-yards dash down the straight.

AS a means of rescuing the 'Street Arabs' from the forlorn and wretched condition in which hundreds of them are in Liverpool, the Boys' Refuge and Night Asylum, St Ann's-street, has been particularly successful, and where before nearly all the boys were lost to nearly all sense of morality, they are now not only educated to a high degree, but trained up as instrumentalists and vocalists. The result is that a band has been established in connection with the institution. For the purpose of adding to the funds of this asylum, the inmates, who, by the way are denominated 'Nobody's Children', make visits to various places in the county and give entertainments, and on Monday next we are promised a treat in the shape of a grand vocal and instrumental concert in the Temperance Hall, by the children. All who wish for a treat should not fail to attend.
