THE TOP Smithills School and Sixth Form College Bands, conducted by Christopher Wormald, are in concert at the Victoria Hall on Saturday, March 6, to celebrate the 175th birthday of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. Featured will be the world and national champion Senior Brass Band, the Senior Concert Band and the award-winning Senior Big Band, which are sponsored by Fort James UK Limited and Keogh Ritson Solicitors.
Roger Webster, one of the world's greatest cornetists, will be a soloist.
Roger, who was Principal Cornet of Black Dyke Mills Band for five years, is in demand as a soloist throughout the world and has appeared in such venues as the Sydney Opera House and the Royal Albert Hall in London. He represents Boosey & Hawkes Music Instruments, who are sponsoring his Bolton appearance.
Like the Smithills School Senior Brass Band, with whom he will play a selection of well known solos, Webster will soon fly out to Tokyo. Last year Roger gave a number of sell-out concerts in America.
Also taking part in the Victoria Hall concert is the choir from St Thomas CE Primary School, Halliwell.
Tickets for the concert, which starts at 7.30 pm, are available from Smithills School (01204 842382), Mrs Doris Robinson (01204 524058), Booth's Music, Churchgate (01204 522908) and also on the door.
