BOLTON musicians take to the airwaves on Friday night when they feature on national radio.
Wingates Band, together with conductor Chris Wormald, will feature on the popular BBC Radio 2 programme 'Listen to the Band', presented by Frank Renton.
The band recorded the session with Chris at Peel Hall in Salford just before Christmas. The programme featured one time principal cornetist Peter Read, who played with the band more than 20 years ago, performing during its successful visit to Florida. He is currently head of brass instrumental teaching for the Lancashire Education Service.
The 30-minute broadcast will feature eight tracks including 'Wingates March', 'Intrada Festiva', 'Pastorale', 'Men of Harlech' and 'The King of Love My Shepherd Is'. Peter Read is soloist in Chris Wormald's own arrangement of 'A Brown Bird Singing'.
Wingates Band, together with Chris, will appear on Saturday, the evening after the radio broadcast, at the Victoria Hall, Knowsley Street, 7.30pm. The concert will feature the 100-strong Warrington Male Voice Choir.
Tickets, £4.50 or £4 concessions, are available from Booth's music 522908, David Kaye 01942 840044, Smithills School office or Bolton Town Hall Tourist Office.
