I HAVE acquired the latest edition of Millennium 100 Years of Transport and I find your coverage of the canals of the area, one page, abysmal.
Where is the canal enthusiasts' coverage?
In our village we had a fine body of canal workers, what they would think of your attempt to commemorate their past I do not know.
The waterways in and around Bolton, both above and below ground are unique, every town had trams and trains etc, but not the original canal system.
A Mason, Blackrod
Editor's note: This is not a publication designed to commemorate the history of our canal workers, but to give an insight into Bolton's ever-changing forms of transport through the ages. Other Millennium publications are planned, and it may be possible to go into greater depth on the importance of our waterways in future issues.
