PLANS to create a new community to the west of Chorley - including more than 500 houses, a primary school and community centre - appeared to be on course this week.
Chorley Borough Council's planning committee was recommended to approve the latest developments at a meeting on Tuesday night.
Developers Redrow homes (Lancs) and Wainhomes have submitted plans for the types of housing, associated open space, play areas and a community building.
The land in question is off Copper Works Wood, west of Gillibrand Hall and north west of Southlands High School, Clover Road, Gillibrand.
The proposed Gillibrand Link Road will provide access to the new neighbourhood, which will include a variety of houses - larger detached homes to the north and more densely developed three-storey homes, developed in a courtyard layout to the south.
Traffic calming measures will keep vehicle speeds down and homes will get noise reduction measures, especially those closest to the road and to the nearby operations at Grundy's Farm and Hart's depot. Access to the two businesses will remain as they are now
All car access will be from the link road, apart from a small number of houses off Clover Road. And pedestrian and cycle links will be made available to west Chorley.
Councillors were told that comprehensive measures are to be carried out to tackle landfill gas in the area.
