A GOVERNMENT report has slammed the proposed move of Chorley's TA barracks saying the decision was made for 'no apparent reason' and 'with the absence of logic'.

Also, the report by the Defence Select Committee published last Thursday confirmed MP Lindsay Hoyle's claim that the transfer of Chorley's TA barracks to Queensferry in North Wales was ill thought out and possibly based on political rather than commercial reasons.

The report names Chorley as an example of where poor judgement was made.

It states: "Examples given of a perceived absence of logic included moving a TA Centre at Chorley to Queensferry in Wales for no apparent reason other than to move it across the border." Mr Hoyle, speaking directly after the publication of the report, said: "The Select Committee concluded that the Ministry of Defence has misjudged the Chorley TA's future.

"They imply that the decision to move the 101 Battalion from Chorley to Wales amounted to a lack of judgement."

He added: "I welcome this report and hope that it will persuade the Ministry of Defence to think again.

"I will continue to fight for Chorley's TA centre and hopefully we can salvage something from this in the foreseeable future."
