WITH reference to the article Dying for a Drink, Chorley Citizen, Thursday, February 10.
Andy Stirling's suggestion of distributing vouchers in an attempt to stem the tide of drunkenness and people dying from alcoholic poisoning from over-indulging is great in theory, but how will he close the loophole from the following?
I know several young drinkers who prior going to Chorley on a Friday night drink four 500ml cans of 10 per cent super strength lager. They are stoned before they even get to the bus stop to go to Chorley!
I am a retired aircraft engineer and having tasted this beverage I can assure you that it's the nearest thing to rocket fuel you will ever get.
Apart from breathalysing these young revellers on entering the premises what does one suggest to give the licensee an even break?
A couple of years ago my daughter came home early from a night out at Chorley a little the worse for wear.
I asked her how much she had had to drink. I was amazed at the reply for two reasons: I didn't know anyone could consume such an amount of alcohol in such a short time and still remember where they lived, and two, I didn't know that she earned so much that she could afford it - but that's another story.
