A HOLIDAY of a lifetime turned into a dream trip down Memory Lane for a Bolton woman who met up with her bobby sox idol Eddie Fisher.

The possibility of getting to see the man she has worshipped for more than 40 years was a deciding factor when Prim and Ron Rimmer were choosing where to go for a holiday to celebrate his retirement and their 30th wedding anniversary.

Prim, aged 57, of Clarke Street, Bolton has worshipped the 1950s singer since she was a child.

So when she joined the star's fan club three years ago and discovered he was now living in San Francisco the couple decided to tour California on holiday, spending several days in the city.

"Ron just indulges me really," joked Prim. "Anything for a quiet life."

Wonderful

On arrival the Rimmers delivered a letter to the doorman at the Fishers' apartment block then turned down the chance of going on organised trips just in case Prim's idol should get in touch.

Two days later Eddie Fisher's wife, Betty rang and asked if they would like to meet him at a club he owns.

"He was absolutely wonderful. It was just like meeting a friend," said Prim, who says she is still on cloud nine about her hour and a half meeting with 70-year-old Eddie.

As a teenager Prim kept pictures of Eddie in her bedroom and listened to his hits, which included "Oh My Pa-Pa", "I'm Walking Behind You", "I Need You Now" and "Wish You Were Here."

But she was too young to be allowed to go to any of the idol's concerts when he visited England so she never saw him live.

Eddie Fisher was famous in the 1950s as much for his marriages to actresses Debbie Reynolds and Elizabeth Taylor as his music.

But Prim never forgot him when he faded out of the public eye and was delighted to achieve her lifetime's ambition of meeting him.

She added: "Nine out of 10 stars today wouldn't give you the time of day.

"I felt like I was meeting God really. It was the biggest thrill of my life."
