A FORMER Turton High School pupil has been awarded a doctorate after carrying out cutting edge research into the ozone layer.
Andrew Bush, whose parents live in Rodmell Close, Bromley Cross, used state-of-the-art technology to get a greater insight into the chemical processes which create and destroy the ozone layer, and the chemistry of the gas clouds which surround the stars.
Dr Bush is a former pupil of St Maxentius School, Bradshaw, and Turton High School and studied for a degree in chemistry at the University of East Anglia, where he won several prizes for his achievements in the subject.
In 1993, he moved to the University of Southampton to study chemistry for his philosophy doctorate.
While there, the keen Bolton Wanderers fan enjoyed annoying the locals by pasting a poster sized photo of the team on his laboratory wall.
He now lives in Hampstead Heath and works in central London as technical officer for Lead Development Association International which acts as a link between industry and universities around the world.
He has recently been involved with developing new systems of safer nuclear energy, earthquake dampers to help prevent the collapse of buildings, television screens and vehicle batteries.
