Adlington RANGERS 'A' 20 BAMBER BRIDGE 0
ADLINGTON RANGERS 'A' 0 HAYDOCK 28
ON Saturday Adlington played Bamber Bridge in the cup and again had some forced changes through injuries.
Both teams started slowly, testing out defences. Some good passing movements from both sides were stopped by solid defending.
Tony Brooks, on the wing for the Rangers, made some strong runs and his last break led to the opening score, when he ran up field and was only 10 yards off the Bridge line when he was tackled but slipped out a pass to the supporting Neil Prescott who went in for the try. The kick failed - 4 points.
Later on Carl Parker kicked a penalty to give rangers a 6 point lead. Bridge did some good attacking but Ranger's defence stood firm.
Counter attacking with some good threequarter moves they soon got on the score sheet when Carl Parker slipped a neat pass to Neil Prescott, who side-stepped and ran in for a good try - goaled by parker - 12 points.
In the second half, Rangers kept up a stout defence with forwards John Barker and Phil Moss showing up well. In the backs Paul Cookson was making some good breaks and was stopped just short of the line on two occasions. More quick passing and Prescott shot in for his hat-trick. The kick failed - 16 points.
More good passing tested the bridge defence but they held. Bridge mounted some strong attacks but Rangers ' defence were back to its best and kept a clean sheet.
Then a strong run by Carl Briscoe on his debut carried him over for the final try - 20 points.
This was a good solid performance by Rangers and they must keep it up for the remainder of their League fixtures.
Man of the Match was John Barker followed by Paul Cookson and Carl Parker. Next week Rangers' first team are away to Halton Hornets, the 'A' team home to Hayside Eagles.
RANGERS 'A' team must have been in their dressing room for the first half of their game with Haydock.
They gifted them with a 24 points to nil lead at the break.
Rangers realised that they were playing in the second half, found form, having Haydock defending all through the second half.
Haydock made the odd break up field and somehow scored an unconverted try. Rangers played some very good rugby.
Their defence were excellent, but they could not break down Haydock's defence. Good performances from Jamie Pedley, Man of the Match, Dave Graham, Martin Hill and two new players to Rugby league Neil Dippley and Derek Anderson.
In the end the final score flattered Haydock - Rangers 0 Haydock 28 points.
