I WAS very interested to see the article in the BEN on February 12, about the parishioners of St Mary's RC Church, Horwich, who are going to have a "human chain" demonstration after 11am mass on Sunday, March 7. This event is to show support for Jubilee 2000, the urgent movement to celebrate the Millennium by a one-off cancellation of the backlog of unpayable debts of the world's poorest countries.

However, the last paragraph of the article, about Bolton Christians going to the G8 summit in Cologne, for a similar human chain on June 19, could suggest that only Christians are involved.

It is time that all the major Christian Churches support Jubilee 2000, but the Jubilee 2000 coalition in this country alone includes many secular organisations and voluntary groups.

The support of other religious groups is shown by the membership of the Union of Liberal and Progressive Synagogues and Reform Judaism.

Those of us who were among the 70,000 people making a human chain in Birmingham last May, were pleased to find Hindus, Muslims and Buddhists involved as well.
