THE Lancashire County Council Countryside Service has organised two walks as part of its 1999 Countryside Events programme. The first is a moderate 4 hour, 4 mile walk around Wycoller Valley following paths along the valley sides. Bring along a packed lunch if you wish but a stop will be made at The Herders Inn. Meet at Pepper Mill Barn Study Centre at 11am. Bill Mason will lead the second moderate walk starting from the Bowland Visitors Centre over the rough moorland of Saddle and Fairsnape Fells. The walk lasts for 4-5 hours and is for those who are reasonably fit but lack the confidence of tackling an upland walk by themselves.
