fears THE electorate is right to be concerned about scientifically modified food "Franken Crops".
The virtual monopoly of a few large companies over its production creates genuine fears that the health of future generations may be risked, not to remove famine but to provide profit.
Labour in opposition rightly pointed out that government's spindoctoring of information and application of measures such as The Official Secrets Act was more used to save the face of ministers than to protect national interests of security. That was why in opposition Labour promised a Freedom of Information Act if elected. If we had one the electorate would feel that they were not treated with the contempt they were treated with over mad cow disease.
Incidentally, such an act would remove the need of Labour MPs to defend their ministers against the media or justified official expenditure.
So can I ask our elected representatives when we can expect one? More important what actions they are taking to expedite one? ie A Freedom of Information Act.
