IT'S heartening to see that our Council leaders do such sterling work, despite the previous Government.
Mind you it seems that it's OK for our citizens to walk though and live among filth. It's all in the cause of saving money. I refer of course to the abandoning of late afternoon sweep-ups , the grot spot cleaning, and the opening of public toilets, as reported in Monday's BEN.
The Council should look instead at the monumental waste of money being spent on turning part of the ring road (Moss Bank Way) and other roads into single lanes. The result of this is increased congestion and pollution. Add this to high car park charges, stupidly scheduled road works, and it's no wonder people inside and outside Bolton think the best thing about St Peter's Way is that it takes you away from Bolton. The Trafford Centre is not that far away.
Cllr Jack Foster says: "They cut more under Thatcher". Just how long ago was Margaret Thatcher the leader of the Conservative Government? It's time this Council started shouldering some of the blame.
