CAMPAIGNERS for drug awareness in a Chorley village have received the full support from councillors and the town's MP.
Lindsay Hoyle and Councillor Steve Holgate met members of the Euxton Drug Education Network (EDEN) to pledge their support for the work they intend to do around the area.
The group hopes to set up a drop-in centre with confidential advisors and drug awareness information.
One member of the Euxton group, Mrs Barbara Kirkwood, explained what the group was hoping to achieve in the long-term.
She explained: "The group started in the village after we all became aware of drug use.
"We want to get involved in education for everyone, not just drug users. We also hope to create an atmosphere where drugs and the misuse of drugs are not a taboo subject."
Barbara added: "People who are dependent on drugs, whether it's legal, prescribed or illegal drugs, need help but sometimes they don't know where to go to get it.
"We want to educate people - to raise the general awareness of any type of drug use."
Lindsay Hoyle said: "People who get involved in drugs need support at an early stage before their lives are ruined. It's a dreadful experience to see lives being destroyed through drug dependency.
"The creation of this group is a big bonus."
ZEuxton Drug Education Network are looking for volunteers and members. If you feel you could help, then telephone the Chorley Citizen on (01257) 269313 for more information.
