IT concerns me that nothing has been done to alleviate the traffic problems in Clayton.

The traffic levels continue to increase, not least due to the redevelopment of Asda, increased housing and the M65. This makes it almost impossible to cross the A6, especially at peak times.

The Conservatives are the only ones who seem to have done anything about the problem.

It was the Tories who campaigned that the Labour-controlled county council change its decision not to build a traffic island for the crossing of the A6 to Manor Road School.

It is only the Conservatives who have expressed concerns about levels of traffic on Clayton Brook Road, which is now being used as a short cut to the M65, and it is also only the Conservatives who are pressing for either speed cameras or other traffic calming measures to be introduced on both the A6 in Clayton and Clayton Brook Road.

Councillor Charlesworth and the Liberals are in for a big surprise in the May elections. Labour, on the other hand, seem to have forgotten Clayton East ward all together.

Roger Livesey,

Briery Hey,
