"EVERYONE who is still with us is fit and raring to go," joked RADCLIFFE BORO manager Kevin Glendon in the build up to tomorrow's home clash with Alfreton Town. The Stainton Park boss has trimmed his squad quite ruthlessly over the last fortnight with several departures from the club in a bid to trim the wage bill and build for next season.
Topping the list of outgoings is 34 goal striker Tony Carroll who has moved to Premier Division strugglers Chorley with Boro benefitting from a down payment and a possible permanent tranfer fee come the summer if the player impresses at Victory Park. Making the same move is defender Steve Eyre. Winger Lee Cox has gone to Marine.
Glendon has also made available vastly experienced winger Joe Connor, striker Paul Allen, former Bolton Wanderer Gary Henshaw and midfielder Jon Senior who looks set to join Atherton Colls having impressed their on loan a fortnight ago. Ironically Glendon has been busy towards the end of the week trying to bring new players in.
"It was absolutely necessary for us to cut back," he says, "and we've done it. Now I'm down to a 1st team squad of about 13, plus I've got some very impressive youngsters in the Reserves, who I want to take a good look at towards the end of the season.
"What I've been trying to do is boost us up a bit in positions where we may be a little vulnerable by talking to one or two players who are not figuring regularly at the clubs they are with now. "Tomorrow we'll start with Paul Mullin up front alongside Ian Lunt to see how that goes. Leading the front line is what I brought Luntie back to the club for but with Tony Carroll being in such devastating form we had to accomodate him in other roles. Now he's got his chance to show us what he can do." The status of the game can be checked on the club number 0161 724 8346.
