IAN Millward is calling for a review of the the game's 'on report' system after another of his players was KO'd by a high shot that deserved a sending off. The Leigh coach feels that some referees are 'hiding' behind the 'on report' rule and instead of making a decision on the pitch are leaving the matter to be decided in the committee room.
Last week Widnes centre Chris Percival was eventually cited after being put on report for an alleged spear tackle on Leigh's Stuart Donlan. Yesterday it was Whitehaven skipper David Seeds who was lucky to stay on after a head high shot felled Phil Kendrick. "The crazy thing is that the referee saw the incident and gave us the penalty. Phil left the field with blood pouring from the mouth and with a head full of loose teeth. How much evidence does the referee want?" Millward complained.
"The 'on report' method is fine if the match officials don't have a clear view of an incident. But to my mind both these incidents should have brought automatic red cards."
Former Leigh utility back Jason O'Loughlin, released from Hilton Park in the close season, has joined Lancashire Lynx along with ex-Wigan second rower Ian Gildart.
