PENSIONERS have been sickened by a vandal attack which left their bowling clubhouse badly damaged.
Members of Eagley Park Bowling Club, off Blackburn Road, near Eagley Way, were horrified when they found the clubhouse they maintain had been smashed just weeks before the start of the new season.
Shutters had been ripped off, all the windows had been smashed and interior fixtures damaged. It is thought the attack happened over the weekend.
Drugs
Glass and stones had been hurled onto the green and the bandstand had been covered in graffiti.
David Thornborough, club member and captain of the Turton team, one of several which use the green, said the attack follows a spate of vandalism.
Toilets have been broken into, door handles ripped off, graffiti has been daubed on walls and there has been evidence of drinking and drug taking at the green.
The 60 club members, most of whom are retired, now face the task of repairing and paying for the damage in time for the start of the season on April 5.
"It is an extra cost when we have just forked out for redecoration and new kitchen units," said Mr Thornborough.
