PORNOGRAPHIC materials are bringing God's word to the Philippines - the British and Foreign Bible Society has learnt - through a recycling programme. Trust International Paper Corp (TIPCO), in co-operation with the Bureau of Customs, has given recycled pornographic magazines to the Philippine Bible Society for the printing of Scriptures.
The Bureau of Customs and TIPC agreed to recycle some 3,000 copies of previously confiscated pornographic magazines, and donate the recycled paper to the Bible Society in the form of two 250-kilo rolls of high quality newsprint.
Normally, confiscated pornographic magazines are burned to signify the country's moral stance against such publications. However, with the worsening air pollution, it was felt it would be wiser to recycle the pornographic materials and donate the by-product to a non-profit organization.
