MEMBERS of Smithills Chapel can key into the Internet today - but within minutes of tuning in, several of their pages will be out of date! The official switch-on date coincides with the congregation's annual meeting, which means details of committee members will have changed by tonight. However, that will not be a problem for members of the congregation who will be updating information on a regular basis.

The new network, set up by Mr Andre Simm, member of the Chapel's Leadership Team, comprises 16 pages of news, views and information, designed to interest young and old.

Details about the church, its services, notices and other activities will be given. News on its youth club, music and drama will also be outlined, as will its "Christian message".

Mr Simm explained: "Going on the Internet will benefit the people in the Fellowship as there will be information on there that they can make use of. There is an increasing number of people who use the Internet on a daily basis and it gives easier access to, for example, where the weekend's service will be held.

"In addition, it gives the opportunity to reach the wider community. It gives access to the thousands and thousands of people who are using the Internet every day.

"We will also be linking up to as many other sites as possible.

"Putting the network together took a reasonable amount of work, but now it is set up the maintenance should be easy. We will be changing notices and giving fresh information of what will be going on."
