ADLINGTON Rangers had no luck with the weather on Saturday as the A Team's home match was cancelled.
The First Team were away at Leigh Harriers. Although the pitch wasn't good and soon cut up during play, both teams threw the ball about well and Rangers were attacking with threequarters Tony Brooks and Nick Royale showing up with some good, strong runs.
Forwards Lee Rogers, Phil Moss and Martin Whittle put in some good tackling stints. After 15 minutes Neil Prescott was sent off for a high tackle leaving Rangers' 12 men with a tough task.
Leigh sprang into life now and after some quick attacking runs they cut inside to score a good try and convert to go-ahead by six points.
This stung Rangers into action and they soon got back on level terms with some good attacking play. Half-backs Keith Mitshinson and Carl Parker dictating play around the scrums.
The ball was passed out quickly along the line for centre Nick Royale to race in for a good try, goaled by Carl Parker - score six points all.
Now Rangers gave away a series of penalties which allowed Leigh to move into Rangers' half, where Leigh kicked a penalty - eight points.
Rangers' 12 men soon got back on top with some good strong running from their forwards and should have got further ahead when defence splitting passes were dropped with the line open.
Then Martin Whittle crashed through for a try, goaled by Parker - 12 points.
It was all Rangers now with Leigh unable to get out of their own 25. Carl Hough dashed through but was stopped on the line and from the play the ball hooker Phil Moss dummied and went over for a good try, goaled by parker - 18 points.
Rangers went in at half-time with a lead of 18 points to 6.
Unfortunately, after the break the referee was unable to carry on as he had twisted his knee and the match was abandoned - Carl Parker taking Man of the Match award followed by Phil Moss and John Barker.
ZNext week, Rangers First Team haven't a match with the 'A' Team at home to Wigan St Cuthberts 'A'.
