TAKE the plunge and quit smoking - that's the plea from Chorley's health workers in the wake of this week's No Smoking Day.
Taking The Plunge was the theme for this year's No Smoking Day on Wednesday and the focus was centred on encouraging smokers to have that first go at kicking the habit.
Some primary and secondary schools in the area highlighted No Smoking Day through displays and information that directly aims to approach the subject.
Lisieux Hall, a residential/day centre for those with learning disabilities, included No Smoking Day as part of its health promotion activities as well as The Open Mind Centre.
Jane Lowton, health promotion specialist from Chorley and South Ribble NHS Trust, said: "Although No Smoking Day is a one-day event, the activities don't have to stop there.
"Everyone needs support at certain times in their lives. It may be a listening ear or someone to share ideas with. A smoker who is trying to quit is no exception."
For leaflets and information about stopping smoking, call The Health Promotion Resource Centre, on (01257) 245360 or call the National Quitline number on 0800 002200.
Also, for free copies of the leaflet 'No Time To Draw Breath?' are available from the Macmillan Cancer Relief Information Line on 0845 6016161 or can be found in GP surgeries, Lloyds Chemists, Co-op stores and public libraries.
