THE glory trail . . .
North West Water's popular fitness and fun 'trim trail' has picked up a special local award.
The trail, at Rivington's Lever Park, has been recognised by Chorley Civic Society which is to present NWW with a special commendation.
The company introduced the attraction 18 months ago.
Spread over a half mile course from Great House Barn to the Castle, the eight wooden and metal obstacles give users the chance to really put themselves through their paces.
Colour coded to help users, the trail has items ranging from climbing frames and leap frogs to monkey bars and step-ups.
North West Water project officer Ian Walker, who was involved in initially installing the apparatus, said: "There was some concern at first that the trim trail and its equipment would not really fit into its surroundings. However, it has proved to be popular beyond even our wildest dreams.
"Such is the usage of the trail that we are having to maintain it on a monthly basis and it has proved popular with all ages.
"Children absolutely love it and as for the adults, well, many of them use the equipment as a keep fit circuit while others just try to prove that they have still got what it takes."
Ian added: "We are pleased that the public have taken to the trim trail and that it has proved so popular.
"At the time it was a novel idea, but judging by the reaction of visitors and local people, not to mention the commendation from Chorley Civic Society, we certainly got it right.
