I WISH we could have some honesty concerning the Gillibrand Link Road. This road is not about relieving traffic, its main point is to make available the land near Copperwood.
The council's main point was to provide affordable houses and yet passed the planning permission without mention of the above.
With the detached family homes and three-storey houses will come the car, maybe two per household. At the least that's 500 cars which, at the moment, do not come into the traffic figures.
Then a school. Government figures show that fewer than 10 per cent walk to school. More traffic.
The proposed road goes across, like Wigan Road (A49). Cars still have to go up Moor Road or Southport Road or near the hospital to get to the motorway network or the town centre.
This important woodland pocket in which we now have a deer population, forced by progress out of Duxbury, will again be squeezed even tighter by development.
