IT WAS encouraging to read in the BEN that local MPs are concerned about the bear baiting in Pakistan.
The Bolton Libearty Group has only a few members, but we are all dedicated to the plight of ill-treated bears, wherever this is happening. Many people are still unaware of what is done to the bears, in the name of entertainment, medicine, and tourist attraction. There have been some changes and improvements, and sanctuaries have been opened where the bears can be taken once they are rescued from their horrendous tortures. But there are enormous numbers of bears still suffering unspeakable horrors.
We are aware there are many other charities needing funds, and we have our own personal support for these also, but the Libearty Scheme is so little known, it needs bringing more to the attention of people, especially to those sympathetic to the welfare of animals.
To help raise funds for Libearty a Musical Variety Concert is being held on March 27 at the Victoria Hall, Bolton, 7.30pm. Tickets (£4) can be obtained from Booths Music Shop and Harker and Haworths, and we are grateful to them for their support.
Tickets may also be obtained by ringing 01204 302040 or 302371.
