A MOTHER'S Day present almost ended up costing a woman more than £300 when she dropped the cash in the Market Hall.
But a kindhearted shop assistant spotted the money and went out of her way to make sure it was returned to its owner.
Today, Mrs Dorothy Bendelow, from Little Hulton, paid tribute to the honesty of the assistant from Bobby's Fashions in the Market Hall.
She explained: "I had gone shopping to buy my mum a Mother's Day present. I had also gone to collect her pension and benefits which had built up over the past two weeks to £300.
"Somehow the money in the pension book must have fallen out of my bag without me realising.
"I even got home not knowing that the money had gone missing."
Thoughtful
Mrs Bendelow only realised what had happened when she received a telephone call from her mother, Mrs Doris Yates, 84.
She explained: "The lady from Bobby's Fashions had found the pension book and money. She first tried to telephone my mum, but she is ex-directory, so then she drove all the way to Little Hulton to return all the money. I thought it would be nice to highlight this thoughtful gesture in the newspaper."
The BEN tracked down the woman employee whose honesty warmed the pensioner's heart. But she refused to let us reveal her name. She said: "I don't want any fuss."
