ON Monday, March 1, the first meeting of the newly formed committee for action against the proposed development of Lee Hall in Westhoughton was held.
The outcome was that the people of Westhoughton and surrounding areas were made aware of the consequences of this development going ahead. So it was decided to print out 5,000 leaflets to put through houses in the area with details of problems that would come with this development, then we will follow up with a public meeting (to be arranged shortly) to let people know what is happening and to sign individual petitions.
This development would put over 8,500 car journeys on the road each day which would mean longer journeys for everyone also increased air pollution and deaths to our children on the roads.
Also affected would be our doctors, dentists and schools which are already stretched to the limit.
The government of the moment has a policy of saving green belt land and building on brown belt land, so why should we have this lovely area destroyed?
