TWO local dog owners have come away from Crufts with Best of Breed awards.
Custos Stryke a Pose, a Bazenji hound whose pet name is Taz after the Tasmanian Devil, won Best of Breed at the show in London.
The Bazenji is a hunting dog that comes originally from Egypt and is the only breed of dog that does not bark - instead they make a kind of yodelling sound when they are pleased.
Proud owner Barbara Williams, of Wigan Road, Leigh, has four of the dogs, including the winner's mother.
Mrs Williams, a secretary with G and J Seddon Ltd in Little Hulton, said that although her dogs had won prizes at other shows she was "delighted" with her first win at Crufts.
A Border Terrier called Jack also took a Best of Breed award at the show. Jack, whose full show name is Champion Halcon Jack Daniels after the owner's favourite drink, came top in a strong field of 233 Border Terriers. It was a first Crufts win for the co-owners Christine Sneddon from Kirklees, Tottington, and Susan Williams, from Harwood.
Mrs Sneddon said the win was "wonderful". She was particularly pleased that two of Jack's offspring also won prizes at the show.
