HALL was arrested after a car crash on the outskirts of Bolton.

He was saved from serious injury by the car's airbag after the vehicle he was driving - a red Honda Civic car owned by Celeste Bates - crashed in Tottington Road, Walves, near Hawkshaw.

The car left the road and ploughed into a telegraph pole before landing in a compound storing empty gas cylinders.

The crash at 2.10am on Thursday September 10 happened the day after his three victims had been found battered to death in their Egerton home.

Hall had been named by detectives as the man wanted for questioning just hours earlier.

The Honda was badly damaged but he escaped with only minor cuts and bruises.

He rang a friend for help from a nearby phone box but after answering his call the man he spoke to contacted the police.

Hall tried to escape but within minutes of leaving the phone kiosk a Bolton Police traffic officer spotted him limping along the road.

As the police car approached Hall stopped and told the police officer: "I think you want to speak to me."
