HOW can people who are meant to represent Westhoughton complain when we raised nearly £7,000 for the Westhoughton Mayor's Charity last year? Not one "well done" or "thank you". All I got was criticism at last Monday's council meeting at Westhoughton. The comments were not meant to be personal, but when a number of comments are directed at yourself, it's hard not to take them personally i.e. the Mayor shouldn't wear the Mayoral Chain after their term of office. I had worn it the week before to present my cheques to my charities. (This had been done before). The next comment was that I had given £1,000 to Bolton Hospice. They said I should only have given money to the two chosen charities. The lady who gave me the £1,000 asked if I would give it to the Hospice as Mayor. I saw no problem in this. (They did). Next was money going in to my account when I had finished my term of office. This was £306. This money came from 20 boxes still out and about in the town. I had given out about 150 for my Children's Liver Disease Appeal, not from any more fund-raising. The criticism came from my fellow Liberal Democrats. I am so disappointed to have to write this letter. When I first became a councillor for Westhoughton, I thought it was 12 people and Mayor WORKING TOGETHER for their town.
