BISHOP AUCKLAND 0 LEIGH RMI 0 LEIGH RMI extended their unbeaten run to six matches with a goalless draw at Bishop Auckland but were disappointed not to take the full three points.
After a poor first half when goalkeeper Dave Felgate kept the Railwaymen on level terms with saves from Veart, Shaw and Banks, Leigh came back after the break to create enough chances to have won the game.
The best fell to Ian Monk who headed Mick Wallace's cross against the crossbar from just three yards with goalkeeper Ablewhite beaten. "We should have won the game although it is a difficult place to visit and it is a good point that in the final reckoning could prove vital," said Leigh boss Steve Waywell.
"We were in complete control in the second half and I didn't feel I needed to alter things but the final breakthrough never came.
"In the first half we were under the cosh a little and we have to learn to put two good halves back to back, but we came through it OK and everyone should be fit for Tuesday's second leg semi final at Runcorn." With pressure on players with the three new signings, Peter Smyth responded by producing a top performance, especially in the first half, and was unlucky not to break the deadlock when he curled a shot just over the angle of post and bar before Ablewhite held a snapshot from 25 yards.
