GREATER Manchester Police have launched a new "Guide to Business Security" manual.
It deals with topics such as risk management, theft by staff, selecting security guards, choosing an alarm system and all aspects of closed circuit television.
A GMP spokesperson said it answered many of the questions business owners put to their community safety officers.
Written and compiled by PC Chris MacKenzie, Assistant Force Community Safety Officer, the manual has been sponsored by security firm ADT and will be available to businesses at all police sub-divisions in Greater Manchester.
The manual was launched at the fourth annual Security 2000 seminar held this week in Manchester city centre.
Deputy Chief Constable David McCrone said: "Businesses know that crime can cost them money, but the police alone cannot prevent crime.
"Businesses have to manage crime in the same way they do any other risk."
GMP hoped the manual would give business managers the tools they needed to control and reduce crime.
