THE annual presentation of GCSE certificates and trophies took place on Wednesday November 18.
Mr Ken Strang, Clinical Nurse Manager at Chorley Hospital, and former Head Boy of Albany High School was invited to present the awards to former Year 11 pupils who had taken their public examinations in June 1997.
The presentation included three awards for Majed Aslam for best examination awards, the Malcolm Tranter trophy for science and the Wharton Prize for business studies.
Sara Cornthwaite was awarded the Roberts Shield for Perseverence and Adam Hartley won awards for best examination results and the Stout Trophy for mathematics.
Head Boy, Alistair Toward and Head Girl, Sadia Allam, gave a vote of thanks for the speaker and for his interesting and humorous speech on his time as a pupil at Albany.
The evening's entertainment was organised by Mrs Weber, the Head of English. Members of her Year 7 English group had written poetry based around the theme of fireworks and bonfire night.
The poems were performed by their writers and they were a bunch of bright sparks!
This was followed by Year 7 pupils, Joanne Huyton and Claire Howard who sang solo and a duet in front of a packed audience.
It was quite an ordeal for the girls to sing in front of so many people and they coped superbly.
