ON Friday March 19 the Year 9 football team were involved in a semi-final clash against Southlands for the Chorley Schools Cup.
Held at Albany, the Year 9 team continued their successful season with a hard fought and exciting victory over local rivals, Southlands.
Having previously secured the league title with a 100% record of victories over the other Chorley schools this season, Albany came into the semi-final with a weakened team due to injury to three key players.
The two sides exchanged goals in the first half, with Albany reaching half time 3-2 ahead.
After the break Albany pulled away from Southlands and had a 7-3 lead with 10 minutes to go, but then lost concentration and Southlands pulled the score back to 7-6.
This proved a shock to Albany who replied with two late goals and ran out eventual winners 9-7.
Coach Mr Taylor said: "It was a really exciting game and the team worked very hard for the victory because we were weakened by injury.
"Hopefully the lads can secure a league and cup double in the final at Victory Park.
