THOUSANDS of pounds of damage is being caused by mindless vandals in and around Chorley, council bosses have revealed this week.
Two of Chorley's newly-refurbished play areas on Buttermere Avenue and the Jubilee playing fields have been targeted by louts, costing the council thousands of pounds a year to repair.
But now, in a bid to put a stop to this mindless vandalism, council bosses have vowed to rid the town of this problem by trying to catch the culprits in the act which could lead to arrest and hopefully prosecution.
David Jones, soon-to-be head of Leisure Services Management said: "Vandals have been ripping up the rubber safety tiles on the playgrounds and throwing them around like frisbees.
"They think it's clever and funny but if we catch these vandals then we will prosecute."
