THE results of a survey of shopping in Chorley has revealed a split in generations.

Chorley and District Chamber of Trade commissioned the marketing report, run by students at Runshaw college.

The group obtained answers for 297 questionnaires in Chorley centre and 275 taken in Adlington, Leyland, Preston, Hesketh Bank and Euxton.

However, while the over 40s were happy with the town, especially the market, the under 40s were a little more dissatisfied.

Younger shoppers wanted a bigger variety of shops, including designer stores, department stores, coffee shops, better entertainment and night life.

Overall, general perceptions of the town are good to average with 75 per cent of the people interviewed visiting the centre on a daily or weekly basis.

The council have been made aware of the findings but are unable to comment until firm conclusions can be reached.

The chamber is holding its annual general meeting on March 29 for anyone wanting to air their views of Chorley and its future, at 6pm at The Hartwood Hotel, Preston Road, Chorley.
