THREE tiers of local government have come together on the proposed site of a Chorley village's exciting new millennium green.
Such support is vital to the Mawdesley 2000 scheme as it races to raise the £30,000 needed to buy a four-acre plot of land by August.
Mawdesley Parish Council, represented by chairman Dave Rawcliffe, has pledged £10,000.
Lancashire County Council, represented by Mayor of Chorley, Alan Whittaker, and Chorley borough councillor, Tony Gee have each awarded the project a grant of £2,500. The group are pictured at the site of the new green.
In addition, further grants of £35,000 are now being sought to raise the necessary funds to develop the land in time for its official opening on June 17, 2000.
Chairman Dave Rawcliffe said: "In addition to the forthcoming benefits of having our own village green the fund-raising events are already bringing people together and adding to our sense of community."
Alan Whittaker said: "As both Mayor of Chorley and county councillor for Mawdesley, I am very pleased to have been involved in the provision of this facility.
"This project is an excellent example of what can be achieved by parish, county and borough council and the residents getting behind this much needed provision."
