IN reply to the wingeing letter writer concerning the town hall, market and public houses being well lit at night.
These comments are brought about because of central and local government policy to encourage us all to save energy. As regards the town hall, such a fine building needs to be shown to its best advantage. The writer uses the word brighten. That's exactly what the council is trying to do in an otherwise gloomy town.
Our streets, public houses etc need to be well lit, especially in these days of criminality and CCTV cameras.
Lastly, but by no means least, if only for the poorly sighted, I can only conclude from this rather paranoiac letter that the writer must have lived through the blackout in World War Two.
Perhaps hewould be happy if we all stumbled around with tilly lamps and pencil torches. Three cheers for Chorley Council. God and the council said let there be light and there was light.
