YEAR Nine pupil Michael Vinton made an emotional pilgrimage to his great grandfather's grave in October last year.
Accompanied by his parents, Michael made the journey to Etreux where his great grandfather's First World War grave is situated.
He travelled by car and ferry, but the crossing was particularly nasty, as force nine gales were raging at the time.
When he arrived at the graveside, Michael put flowers on the grave
and also visited the trenches in the area. Unfortunately the visit was marred by atrocious weather conditions.
Michael says his great grandfather was killed in action on a retreatment
with the Royal Fusiliers, allowing the rest of the soldiers to retreat over
two rivers.
