SINGER Robbie Williams has been offered £1 million to make his acting debut in a multi-million pound movie which will be shot in Bolton.

The former Take That star has been offered the lead role in Addict, a film based on the autobiography of Stephen Smith, a broken down drug addict, who left the streets of Deane behind him to become a successful businessman. Robbie has fought his own battle with drink and drugs to emerge as one of the country's most successful male singers. The new British movie is being produced by top Hollywood producer Gary Kurtz, the man behind some of cinema's biggest box office hits including Star Wars.

He is due to visit Bolton in the coming months with Stephen Smith to check on the town's film location potential.

The film will chart his life of drugs, crime, abuse and ultimate success when he left his seedy past behind him.

Initial plans have been made to shoot some scenes in Deane, where Mr Smith spent several months living in a squat battling his drug abuse and alcoholism.

He says he lived as a destitute in the town after being thrown off a train at Bolton station.
