HOPES of a Carl Thompson-Johnny Nelson rematch suffered a setback last night when promoter Frank Warren slapped a fine on the Bolton fighter. In a telephone call to Thompson, Warren announced he was docking the former champion 10 per cent of his pay packet from Saturday night's fight for breach of contract.
Thompson's trainer Billy Graham and cornerman Tom Brugger wore Prince Naseem T-shirts in the ring during the WBO Cruiserweight contest.
The featherweight world champion is the new sponsor of Graham's Phoenix Camp in Salford but Warren, who was recently axed as Naz's promoter, took exception to the gesture. His action appears to be aimed at Graham rather than Thompson - the 10 per cent is the cut the trainer would usually take from such a contest.
The money has been lodged with the British Boxing Board of Control but Graham is already seeking legal action.
Thompson was hoping to secure a rematch with Nelson after he was controversially stopped in the fifth round at the Derby Storm Arena.
