BOLTON Reserves went down to their third successive home Pontins League defeat when League leaders Oldham Athletic ran out 2-0 winners at The Reebok Stadium last night.

Wanderers keeper Keith Branagan, the most experienced player on the pitch from either side, twice denied Latics' forward Mark Allott early on. Firstly he got down to save a powerful left foot shot and then made a super driving save in a one against one situation.

Oldham went ahead in the 27th minute when Danny Walsh got clear on the right. Branagan blocked his shot but the ball rebounded off the underside of the bar and went over the line.

Bolton's best opportunity of the first half came after a good move down the right involving Chris Dawson and Noel Corrigan. The ball came out to Luke Staton who sent a shot from 20 yards of the target.

The Wanderers created more after the interval. Peter Morrison saw his goal-bound shot deflected over after a good run down to the left while Kevin Trueman's shot on the turn beat the keeper but bounced to safety off the post.

Oldham's second came in the 83rd minute to kill off the Wanderers' hopes of a comeback. Substitute Ryan Sugden let fly with a curling shot from 20 yards that found its way in to the top left hand corner of the net.

Team: Branagan, Dawson, Morrison, Holden, O'Malley, Aljofree, Corrigan, Staton, Smith, Trueman (Buggie), Pryers.
