A BOLTON secondary school has received a prestigious national award for its commitment to staff training for the fourth year running.

Canon Slade School won the Investors in People award for its high standard of development and training for all of its 200 teaching staff as well as catering and cleaning staff.

Headmaster, the Rev Peter Shepherd, said the training, assisted by Bolton and Bury Chamber of Commerce, had contributed much to the school's growing success.

He said: "Traditionally, schools tend to focus on developing their teachers and the training of non-teaching staff can be overlooked.

Valued

"Through Investors, every member of staff now has their own training plan and appraisal system, which helps everybody make a full contribution and feel fully valued.

"Our success in being re-recognised as an Investors in People organisation is down to the efforts and every member of staff who make such a rich contribution to the school's vibrant life."

Andrew Heydeman, of Bolton and Bury Chamber of Commerce, added: "Canon Slade has absorbed the principles of Investors in People into everything it does.

"All staff pull together as a team to achieve the highest academic standards and to create an exceptionally caring environment."

In 1997, Canon Slade won the Grant Maintained Schools Award of Excellence and GCSE results have improved year-on-year, regularly featuring at the top of the school league tables. Last year's A-level results were the best ever.
