A dozen police motorcyclists, together with other officers, will descend on the car park of Rivington Barn from 10am where they will offer advice to motor cycle enthusiasts at what is traditionally seen as the start of the 'biking season'.

The police are supporting a Lancashire County Council road safety campaign with a motor cycle training scheme for riders of differing abilities, from beginners to advanced riders wishing to polish up their skills.

The county council highlights that over the past six years in Lancashire there have been 2,770 crashes with other vehicles where the rider has been injured.

In 1986, 68 per cent of the under-25s made up motorcycle casualties. By 1998, there was a complete reversal with 68 per cent over-25 making up casualties.
